Creating Ethical AI Solutions for Our Customers

Beyond Ethical AI

Over the last few years, AI has become incorporated in our everyday life and used around us in a wide variety of services – from identifying images in pictures to facial recognition, text summarization and more. As AI’s transformative potential has become clear, so have the risks posed by unsafe or unethical AI systems.

People tend to become dependent on new technology that becomes part of their lives. The same applies to AI, only that in this case, mistakes can take a significant toll from society and inflict real harm on human beings, with potential unfair and non-transparent decisions, privacy violations, discrimination against population groups, and more. In addition, the power that lies in AI solutions creates conditions in which any small error, bias or deviation can potentially cause a devastating impact on the reputation of the company creating the solutions, or on those using the solutions.

Ensuring Our Solutions are Used Ethically

To avoid these potential errors, we at BeyondMinds are committed to developing and providing our customers with solutions that meet the ethical principles of AI, with a special focus on social justice, fairness, and non-discrimination (equality and prevention of stigmatization). Our ethical code guidelines impact the way we design, develop, deploy and monitor the solutions on our platform, throughout the entire product lifecycle – from the initial design conceptualization all the way to maintaining it in production.

In addition, we closely monitor evolving AI regulations around the world, and we’re already compliant with international regulations regarding data security and privacy, such as HIPAA and ISO 27001.

The BeyondMinds Ethics Committee

As part of this commitment, we’ve established an ethics committee, comprising of members across diverse departments (marketing, legal, data security, HR, product, R&D.) The committee focuses on three control points in the product lifecycle:

Solution design stage – Running detailed risk analysis, checking the data used to train models and how parameters are defined, to avoid biases. In addition, we identify potential ethical issues the way solutions are used.

Development stage – In developing the model, we pay close attention to avoiding feature imbalances and biases that can result in discrimination against certain target populations, taking into account edge cases.

Monitoring stage – Throughout the process, we ensure that our solution provides transparency and explainability regarding our AI predictions and outputs, making sure there are no significant data drifts that can create potential ethical risk.
